Blue Water Paradise
Port Stephens is a large coastal region, located about 160 kilometers north-east of Sydney.
Port Stephens is larger than Sydney Harbour and has a narrow entrance between two striking hills of volcanic origin.
The place is excellent for fishing and recreational boating and is especially famous for dolphin and whale watching.
The port was named by Captain Cook when he passed on 11 May 1770, honoring Sir Philip Stephens who was Secretary of the Admiralty.
Port Stephens’ soil is mostly poor and has limited agricultural potential. For this reason, there are no large town around and the development of a significant port has never been possible. The major city and port of Newcastle developed about 45 kilometers south-west of Port Stephen, at the mouth of the Hunter River. Small towns developed around the port as fishing, holiday and retirement communities. Larger towns and suburbs on the shores of Port Stephens include Corlette, Hawks Nest, Lemon Tree Passage, Mallabula, Nelson Bay, North Arm Cove, Salamander Bay, Shoal Bay, Soldiers Point and Tanilba Bay.
