Adelaide
A 'Brilliant Blend'
Adelaide is the capital of the state of South Australia. With a population of over 1.1 million, it is the fifth largest city of the country. Adelaide is on the coast of the Southern Ocean and is situated on the Adelaide Plains.
Adelaide was founded in 1836 and was meant to become the capital for the only freely-settled British province in Australia. The city was named in honor of Queen Adelaide.
Spacious boulevards and lush gardens, initially designed by one of the city’s founding father, accentuate the peculiarity of this city. Wandering in Adelaide’s vibrant districts enables to observe its sophisticated architecture.
Adelaide is known for its numerous festivals as well as for its wine, arts and sports. Adelaide is the center of South Australia's booming wine industry; the famous Barossa Valley is very close. Not only wine, but food is also celebrated in Adelaide, where some streets are entirely devoted to alfresco dining.
