The Kimberley
The Kimberley
The Kimberley is the northern region of the nine regions of Western Australia. It is bordered by the Timor Sea on the north, the Indian Ocean on the west and deserts on the south. At its east side is the Northern Territory. The region’s surface is about 424,000 square kilometers, which is larger than Japan and three times the size of England. Kimberley’s population is about 38,000.
Broome, Derby and Kununurra are the only three towns with a population over 2,000. The region is mainly accessible by dirt road and traveling by air is often necessary. The main industries are pearling, mining, agriculture and tourism.
The region offers fantastic sceneries, as the geology is varied and impressive. An adventurous trip to Purnululu National Park and the discovery of the Horizontal Falls are very popular experiences.
