Kakadu National Park
Treasure of Australia
Kakadu National Park is located in the Northern Territory of Australia, about 200 kilometres east of Darwin. It covers around 20,000 square kilometres. This World Heritage listed National Park is internationally recognised and well-known as one of Australia’s treasures.
The environment is very diverse. Escarpments shelter aboriginal rock arts while flood plains of the South Alligator River offer a rich fauna and flora. Aboriginal people, who lived in the area for more than 50,000 years, left quite a legacy. Art, stones, shelters and other traces of their life are popular attractions.
Depending on the season and on luck, crocodiles can be seen, as well as dingos, goannas, wallabies, and an amazing range of bird species. The flora offers about 1,600 different species and experiences tremendous changes from the tropical summer season to the dry season. Water lilies covering billabongs are particularly beautiful.
