Darwin is the tropical capital city of Australia’s Northern Territory. With a population of about 105,991, it is the largest city of the territory, as well as the smallest Australia’s capital city. It was founded in 1869 as the most northerly harbour port of the country and is still perched on a peninsula with sea on three sides.
Darwin is very isolated from the others Australian cities and is actually closer to Jakarta than it is to Sydney. That proximity to Asia can be sensed in the cosmopolitan and relaxed atmosphere of Darwin and probably makes it the most multicultural city of the whole country. We can count more than 50 different nationalities in this small city.
A warm weather all year round enables a relaxing outdoor lifestyle, while ethnic diversity delivers all the benefits of a melting pot. Markets, restaurants and events give a good idea of that blend.
The proximity of Litchfield National Park and Kakadu National Park offers amazing adventurous stays.
