The city sitting on a river
Perth is Western Australia’s capital and the largest city of the state. With a population over 1.5 million inhabitants, Perth is the fourth most populous urban area of the country.
Perth, which sits beside the widest stretch of the Swan River, was founded in June 1829 by Captain James Stirling. At first, it was the centre of the free settler Swan River Colony.
Perth City Centre is located alongside the relaxing waters of the Swan River, twenty Kilometres inland of the Indian Ocean on the West Coast of Australia.
Perth is known as a great venue for holidays because of its beaches and a large range of marine adventures. Many river cruises are organized on the Swan River, but it is also very enjoyable to discover the river and its panoramic views by walking or cycling.
The city is a good place for shopping lovers and its nightlife is busy.
Some areas close to Perth are very popular among tourists: the Sunset Coast, Fremantle, the Swan Valley and Rottnest Island.
